We address key questions in plant biodiversity and biogeography to advance evidence-based knowledge for understanding and protecting unique plant communities.
Within this framework, our research lines focus on:
PHYLOGEOGRAPHY. Geographic patterns of plant diversity and associated eco-evolutionary processes.
HEATHLAND. Ecology and uniqueness of dry Mediterranean (herriza) and wet Atlantic (albina) heathlands.
FIRE. Fire as determinant factor on plant evolution and Mediterranean ecosistems.
BIODIVERSITY AND CONSERVATION. From genes to communities; description and assessment of biodiversity to inform evidence-based conservation.
CARNIVOROUS PLANTS. Functional adaptations to insect predation.
EMBAUCA: Exploring how plant-microbiome interactions in the rare palaeoendemic Drosophyllum lusitanicum challenge the established ecological limits of plant carnivory.
BIGHEATH: Contributing to the understanding and conservation of Mediterranean dry (herriza; H4030) and Atlantic wet (albina; H4020) heathlands by (i) unveiling the phylogeographic patterns and eco-evolutionary processes shaping the distribution of Ibero–North African flora across the Strait of Gibraltar and (ii) assessing plant diversity at the community scale.
